The silence in the car was crushing. Liam stared out the window, watching the familiar landscape blur past. He’d made the decision to move back, but the closer they got to his parents' house, the heavier his heart became.

His father, driving, whistled tunelessly, a stark contrast to the internal turmoil that had begun to build. The air conditioning was on full blast, but Liam could feel a sweat starting to form on the back of his neck.

He forced himself to look at his father, to offer a smile, but the words wouldn’t come. He shifted in his seat, a restless energy building inside him. The house loomed, a titan in the distance.
