The reunion invitation was tucked beneath a pile of unopened mail. Frank ran a hand through his thinning hair, his gaze landing on the single, unopened envelope. He felt a sudden, inexplicable ache in his gut. The weight of expectations pressed down on him.

He was in a small, cramped office, surrounded by stacks of paperwork he hadn't touched in days. He couldn’t bring himself to open the envelope, fearing the words contained within. He felt a strong desire to be alone, to disappear.

He swiveled in his chair, staring out the window, at the gray, overcast sky. He felt a deep, profound sense of inadequacy. He didn’t want to see them. He didn’t want them to see him. He closed his eyes, and a wave of exhaustion washed over him.
