Mark found himself pacing the small dorm room, his steps short and agitated. He’d forgotten something vital in the room, his journal had been on the desk. He hadn’t noticed the placement or angle of it, but he knew the layout. His journal was in a specific spot. He was certain.

His roommate, Alex, was out with friends, but his presence still seemed to hang in the air. Mark ran a hand through his hair, a nervous gesture he’d been making all evening. He picked up his phone, then put it down, his fingers tapping against the cold surface of the screen. He needed air, needed to be anywhere but there.
