He walked slowly, the gravel crunching beneath his feet. The house seemed to loom, a silent observer. His breath hitched as he stared at the familiar façade. He remembered the laughter, the arguments, the shared meals.

He reached out and touched the windowpane, the glass cool to the touch. A tear escaped, tracing a path down his weathered cheek. He felt an intense hollowness, a void opening inside him. He turned away and walked, feeling utterly alone.
