The air became increasingly stale, heavy with the unspoken tension between them. Amelia ran a hand through her hair, smoothing down the strands again and again. She hadn't realized how important it was to have space, to breathe freely, until that very moment.

She started to pace the small space of the elevator car. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. She stopped pacing and asked, “So, you think they'll notice we’re missing?" She didn't really care, but she needed to say something to break the silence.

Her coworker, Ben, shrugged. He leaned against the wall, his arms crossed. Amelia felt a surge of irritation directed at him. She wished he'd do something, anything.
