The city lights blurred through the rain-streaked window. Clara stared at the rejection letter, the print a smudge of black ink against white. She felt a profound sense of… depletion. Her usually vibrant spirit seemed to have been extinguished.

She sat on the floor, leaning against the cold glass. She wrapped her arms around her legs, seeking some comfort, some solace. She felt an overwhelming weariness, a desire to simply disappear.
