He ran a hand through his hair, leaving it a mess. His aunt's retirement party. He wanted to be there. He was the one of the only relatives she had left, and he loved her very much.

He stared out the window, watching the planes come and go. Each one felt like a dagger. He felt a desperate urge to run, to escape the confines of the airport. The feeling was a tight, internal pressure.

He kept checking the departure board, hoping against hope that something would change. The minutes ticked by, each one stealing away his opportunity. He felt a growing sense of dread, a premonition of missed moments and lasting regret.
