Gemotions

The forest path seemed to narrow, the trees closing in. Mark stopped, suddenly feeling winded, even though the hike had been easy so far. "You're sure it was here, Liam?"

Liam, his face flushed with exertion, pointed towards a dense thicket of ferns. "Absolutely. That's where we found it. That ancient arrowhead."

Mark shifted his weight, his gaze darting around the forest floor. He had no memory of any arrowhead. His heart was beginning to thump against his ribs.

Liam was describing the find in vivid detail, but to Mark, it was alien. The details seemed crafted. A cold dread seeped into him. He tugged at his collar, feeling suddenly suffocated.

"I... I don't recall it," Mark said, his voice a tremor. The light seemed to dim, the familiar woods warping into a place he no longer knew.
