The room seemed to shrink. Amelia pressed her back against the wall, as if trying to physically disappear. The words, her words, mocked her from the screen. She felt a profound sense of violation.

She pressed her fingers to her lips, suppressing the urge to scream. The air felt thin, difficult to breathe.

She thought of her friends, her family. She imagined their reactions, the whispers, the sideways glances. The weight of it was almost unbearable. She wanted to be any place but here.
