The coffee tasted bitter, too strong. Liam kept staring at the email, the stark white words a physical assault. Incorrect records. Someone else’s history, his projected future. He felt like he’d been plunged into icy water.

He stood abruptly, the chair scraping loudly against the floor. He needed air, needed to get away from the suffocating feeling of wrongness. The world tilted on its axis.
