He’d been feeling off-kilter all day, like something was just…wrong. Now, this. Mark flipped the card over and over in his hands, examining the clean white envelope. It was addressed to “Occupant.” The postmark was local, but the stamp was one he didn't recognize.

He glanced at the calendar. His birthday wasn’t for another four months. His stomach gave a little lurch. He had the sudden, irrational urge to check all the locks on his doors and windows, even though he had already done so that morning.

He walked over to his laptop and began searching for the name of the post office on the envelope. He found no results. The hairs on the back of his neck prickled.
