The art gallery was crowded, the air thick with the murmur of conversations and the scent of expensive perfume. Liam scanned the room, looking for his girlfriend, Chloe. He had just seen the art piece he'd helped her find. He felt a growing sense of unease. He was excited, but also a little unsettled.

He saw her. She was standing near a sculpture, talking animatedly with a man. He moved closer, trying to hear their conversation. The man was gesturing with his hands. Then, he saw Chloe’s eyes meet his. She stiffened. Her smile faltered.

Liam approached them. The man turned. Liam recognized him. He was a coworker of Chloe’s. His face was a mask of shock. The man looked at Liam and Chloe, his face contorted. The blood drained from Liam’s face. Everything seemed to pause.
