It felt like a physical weight, pressing down on him. Mark found himself constantly glancing at his journal, its place on the desk like a silent accusation. He had to be sure, had to be certain.

The way his roommate, Kevin, was sitting, the way his roommate’s eyes darted around the room, made him want to scream. Mark tried to focus on his assignment, but his mind raced, picturing his roommate reading his words.

He stood up, unable to sit. The air in the room was too thick, the silence too loud. He walked out of the room, needing to breathe, needing to escape.
