The drive to the grocery store was excruciating. Ben kept checking his rearview mirror, convinced he was being followed. The other party, the competing date, had him on edge.

He gripped the steering wheel so hard his knuckles were white. The radio, usually a comfort, now felt like an intrusion, a constant reminder of the outside world.

He pulled into the parking lot, the glare of the sun making him squint. He just needed to buy the supplies, finish the preparations, and make it through the day. But the thought of everything, every detail, filled him with a restless unease.
