Gemotions

I kept repeating the same phrases, the same excuses. "Oh, it's just a coincidence," I'd tell anyone who asked, forcing a smile. But I couldn't stop thinking about the other event.

I checked my phone every five minutes. The likes, the comments, the RSVPs – each one a potential blow. My stomach churned with a nervous energy I couldn't seem to quell.

I walked the length of my apartment, my hands clasped in front of me, muttering to myself. The date was approaching. I felt like I was standing on the precipice of something terrible.
