He’d always considered himself a practical man. This discovery, however, made his stomach churn. Found tucked inside a book, the letter detailed the depth of his teenage infatuation with a girl he now barely remembered. He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture clumsy and agitated.

The language… he cringed at his choice of words. It was like looking in a distorted mirror. He paced the length of his living room, a space usually so comforting.

He felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to scrub the floors. To rid the house of something… unclean. The thought made his skin prickle. He started, then stopped, his hands clenched into fists. He couldn't quite put his finger on what was causing this internal disquiet.
