The sunlight pouring through the window seemed too bright, too intrusive. Amelia reread the letter. It was from a younger self, full of dreams, full of anger she'd long forgotten. A knot tightened in her chest.

She stood abruptly, pushing the chair away with a scrape. The sound echoed in the otherwise quiet room. She walked to the window, staring out at the bustling city below.

Her hands were shaking as she reached for her phone, scrolling through contacts, before abruptly closing the app. The image of the skyline blurred. She wanted to scream.
