The old shoebox, filled with yellowed photographs and faded letters, held a secret. Ben, after the death of his uncle, had been tasked with sorting through the belongings. He found the draft letter of resignation from a prestigious university. His uncle, the renowned professor, who had always seemed so content. The letter spoke of intellectual stagnation and a desire for more.

A tremor went through him. He’d always looked up to his uncle, admired his intellect, his influence. But this letter… It was as if he’d been living a lie. He felt a strange churning in his stomach, a sensation of being off-balance.

He dropped the letter, unable to hold it any longer. He went to the window, staring out at the trees swaying in the wind, a wave of confusion and loss washing over him. The world seemed to tilt.
