He had found the letter tucked inside a book he hadn't opened in years. Michael traced the familiar handwriting on the envelope, a wave of nausea washing over him. It was from his former best friend, someone he hadn't spoken to since a painful falling out. He unfolded the paper, his hands unsteady. His breath hitched as he read the words, the casual tone of apology somehow more unsettling than a direct confrontation would have been. He threw the letter onto his cluttered desk, and rubbed his temples, wondering why now. The room seemed smaller, the walls closing in.
