He’d taken a detour, a long one, after the phone call. The lawyer's words, still ringing in his ears, spun in his head: "Your father... another son." He pulled the car over, the familiar landscape blurring into something alien. A cold sweat slicked his palms as he stared at the dashboard. He considered driving straight home, but he couldn't. He needed… something. He rolled down the window, the harsh wind whipping his hair across his face. He felt like his own skin didn't quite fit, like he was a character in a play he hadn't rehearsed for. He closed his eyes, and the world seemed to tilt.
