She'd been struggling with her insomnia for weeks, the darkness amplifying her anxieties. Therapy seemed like a logical step. But, when she'd searched for therapists in her area, her heart had plummeted. "Dr. Connor Hayes." It felt like a punch to the gut. The boy who used to torment her.

The waiting room was bright, a little too bright. She gripped her phone, scrolling aimlessly. Time seemed to slow to a crawl. The air seemed thin, leaving her wanting more.

The door opened and there he was. He smiled, that same irritating, condescending smile. "Ms. Johnson, please, come on in."

She followed him, feeling as if she were sleepwalking. His office was organized, sterile. She felt a wave of nausea.
