She sat on the edge of the bed, heart hammering against her ribs. The details were astounding: her childhood dreams, her secret fears, the way she chewed on the inside of her cheek when she was contemplating a problem. It was an uncanny, almost surgical, dissection of her life.

She felt a strange disconnect, as though she were watching a movie about someone else, a movie she didn't remember consenting to. She found herself reaching for her phone, a desire to call her best friend, a need to verbalize the unsettling strangeness.
