Gemotions

David spent the entire bus ride home staring out the window, the passing scenery a blur. The accusation hung in the air, a phantom limb that throbbed with a dull ache. He couldn’t seem to concentrate on anything. The news filled him with a potent sense of dread.

The familiar sights of his neighborhood offered no solace. The houses, the trees, the streets – everything seemed to be subtly shifted. He felt as though he was an imposter, and his carefully constructed life was about to be revealed as a lie. He closed his eyes, willing the sensation to go away.

When he reached his house, he fumbled with his keys, his hands shaking. The door swung open and he stepped inside, but the house felt foreign, not his own. He was alone.
