He stared, his jaw clenched, at the empty space. A bead of sweat trickled down the side of his face. He felt a pressure building behind his eyes, a tightness in his chest. “What the hell?” he muttered, the words barely audible. His pulse quickened.

He ran a hand over his head, dislodging his carefully styled hair. He couldn't remember… It was all a blur. He felt as if he was missing a piece of the puzzle, a crucial detail that would make everything make sense. The air seemed to thrum with a hidden current of tension.

He spent the next few hours in a state of agitation. He replayed the events of the previous evening in his head, desperately trying to find the missing link. He spoke loudly and quickly as he paced. Every shadow, every sound, seemed to amplify his sense of disquiet.
