The scent of freshly baked bread usually soothed Liam, but today it was making him feel slightly ill. He sat at the kitchen table, replaying the conversation he’d just had with Mia. They had always shared a happy memory about their first trip to Paris. Mia had described a perfect romantic holiday. Liam, however, remembered the trip as a disaster, marked by missed trains, lost luggage, and constant misunderstandings.

He felt a sudden wave of dizziness. He ran a hand across his forehead, trying to clear his head. His own home didn't feel safe.
