Liam stared at the email, the words blurring before his eyes. "Regret to inform you..." The phrase echoed in his head, a hollow laugh mocking his ambition. He tossed his phone onto the worn couch, the leather creaking in protest. He paced the small apartment, his normally steady stride now jerky and uneven. He ran a hand through his hair, finding a stubborn knot near the crown of his head. The weight of his unfulfilled expectation pressed down, a physical burden he couldn't quite shake off.
