From the moment Liam stepped through the front door, something felt…off. He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture automatic, a nervous tic. He walked from room to room, touching the furniture, as if to ground himself. His sister, Chloe, was upstairs sorting through the bedrooms, chattering away about her plans. But Liam couldn't focus. He kept glancing at the shadows in the corners, each one seeming to shift and morph. The house seemed to hold its breath. He suddenly needed a cigarette, though he'd quit months ago.
