Gemotions

The first night in the house was a disaster. I couldn’t sleep. I tossed and turned, the unfamiliar creaks of the old house echoing in the darkness. My sister, Sarah, was snoring peacefully in the next room, oblivious to my struggle. I got out of bed, unable to bear the confinement. I needed space, air, anything but the suffocating feeling that pressed down on me. I wandered the house, touching the cold doorknobs, peering out of the darkened windows. The only solace I found was the rhythmic ticking of the grandfather clock in the hallway.
