“Are you sure you want to go through with this, Mrs. Davies?” the estate agent asked gently. She just nodded, her throat constricted. The words wouldn't come. She gripped her handbag tighter, her knuckles white. A strange feeling, a sort of inner turbulence, churned within her.

She walked the rooms one last time, slowly, methodically. The sunlight streamed through the dusty windows, illuminating the empty spaces. She imagined her children running through these very hallways, their laughter filling the air.

She stopped at the front door, the brass handle cold beneath her palm. It felt like she was trapped in a dream, unable to wake up. The finality of it all was overwhelming. She just wanted to… to disappear.
