The crowded bar, usually a source of comfort, now felt like a suffocating pressure chamber. Liam nursed his drink, the ice clinking against the glass, a sound that grated on his already frayed nerves. He avoided eye contact, his gaze flitting from face to face, searching for… what? Understanding? He didn’t know. The weight of the news was a leaden thing, pulling him down. He took a long, slow sip of his whiskey, the alcohol doing little to soothe the tightness in his chest, the feeling of something… off. He needed to get out of there.
