The vibrant colors of the living room felt muted, the light too bright. He stared out the window, the image of a playful kitten superimposed on the cityscape. The idea of adopting a pet had turned his world upside down.

He walked over to the window, feeling the cool glass against his forehead. He usually enjoyed the view, but now, the bustling streets outside seemed to mirror the chaos swirling inside him. He started feeling lightheaded.

He sighed, the sound barely audible. The thought of the kitten's playful antics, its potential to change the balance of their lives, created a knot in his stomach. He wasn’t ready for this.
