Gemotions

The elevator ride felt interminable. David kept hitting the button for the 10th floor, as if that would somehow make it go faster. He gripped his briefcase so tightly his knuckles were white. The message had arrived just before he left for lunch, and the meal had been a blur of forced pleasantries.

He exited the elevator and walked down the hallway, the familiar route suddenly unfamiliar. The faces of his colleagues seemed distant, their smiles somehow false. He stopped at his office, the door a solid barrier he now felt reluctant to cross.

He opened the door. The familiar clutter of his desk seemed somehow different, threatening. He sat down, the leather of his chair cold against his skin. He felt a deep unease, a feeling that things were about to change in ways he couldn't even imagine.
