"Did you get the email, too?" Maria whispered to Lisa in the ladies' room. The metallic scent of the cleaning solution seemed to intensify the building tension.

Lisa nodded, avoiding Maria's gaze. Her face was pale, her lips pressed into a thin line. She carefully applied lipstick, her hands trembling slightly. "I don't know what to think," she murmured, her voice barely audible.

Maria stared at her reflection in the mirror, searching for answers. She touched her own face, as if to reassure herself that she was still there. The bright lights of the restroom seemed harsh, amplifying the feeling of something about to break.
