The flickering neon sign outside the diner cast long, dancing shadows across Amelia's booth. She tapped her fork against the chipped ceramic plate, the sound echoing in the otherwise empty space. It was after midnight, and the waitress, a woman with tired eyes and a name tag that read “Doris,” had long since retreated to the back. A bead of sweat trickled down Amelia's temple, despite the cool air conditioning. Her stomach churned, a knot of unease twisting within her. She'd just sent the text. Wrong number. She replayed the conversation in her head, re-reading the text message she sent to her ex-boyfriend, Mark. Had she said too much?

Her phone buzzed, vibrating on the table. She jumped, her heart hammering against her ribs. It was a notification from the weather app. A cold wave was predicted. Amelia let out a breath and swiped to view the details, but the image of the text message she had sent remained. She wondered who she had sent it to.
