Gemotions

The woman opened the door to find the boxy form of a delivery man with a bouquet. The flowers were gorgeous, but his words, “No card, miss,” seemed to echo into the silence of the empty house. Her heart did a strange little skip.

She brought them inside, suddenly self-conscious. She wandered from room to room, the flowers clutched in her arms. She looked at the windows, and the shadows the fading light was casting. She set the flowers down on the table, and suddenly felt a need to clean. She cleaned the table, then the floor, and then the counters.

She kept starting at noises outside. She was usually a fast sleeper, but found herself wide awake long after midnight, and then, again, at dawn. She felt like someone was watching.
