The discussion happened over the fence. Kevin, their new neighbor, wanted to grow tomatoes, using a bit of his side of the yard. "Wouldn't take up much room," Kevin had promised. Kevin seemed so at ease, so comfortable. A tightness formed in Mark's chest. "Okay," Mark had replied, the word a struggle.

He found himself wandering around, touching objects without purpose. His breathing quickened. He imagined the vines, the tomatoes, the…change.

He walked to the garage and started organizing tools, arranging them by size and type, needing the order and control. The need to do something, anything, surged through him.
