The constant noise of the construction site across the street grated on David's nerves. His apartment was his sanctuary, but even that felt invaded by the incessant hammering and drilling. He needed some quiet, some peace. Lily’s latest collection of artwork lay on the coffee table. A large, red figure with swirling patterns was the centrepiece of one drawing. He recognized the shape of that swirling creature instantly - it was Snuggle, the imaginary companion he had created during his lonely years.

David felt a knot tighten in his stomach. He didn’t want to be reminded of those days of isolation, of the anxieties that plagued his youth. He wanted to scream.

He picked up a book, attempting to lose himself in the pages, but the images of Snuggle kept flashing before his eyes.
