He stared at the blank screen, the cursor blinking mockingly. Richard had deadlines to meet, and the noise next door made it impossible to focus. His fingers hovered over the keyboard, but his mind refused to cooperate.

He ran a hand through his hair, a gesture of frustration he didn't even realize he was doing. The hammering, the sawing, the constant chatter - it was maddening. He felt a tightness in his chest, a restricting band that prevented him from breathing easily.

He swiveled in his chair, staring out the window, his gaze fixed on the offending house. He wanted to shout, to scream, to make it stop. Instead, he just sat there, simmering, his work hours slipping away.
