"This is ridiculous," complained Emily, her voice barely a whisper, as if afraid to make the situation worse. She was already at breaking point; the noise was driving her crazy. She loved her routine. Now, she was unable to complete any of her tasks.

She abruptly stopped making the bed, defeated by the ongoing disturbance. Her shoulders slumped. Her heart pounded as the drilling began. She retreated to the bedroom.

She felt a wave of tears welling in her eyes, a physical manifestation of her suppressed rage. It was like living in a construction site; impossible to escape. She found herself clutching her chest, desperately trying to calm her rapid breathing.
