“Oh, hell no.” Jake growled, the words escaping his lips without his consent. It was Trevor. He felt a hot flush creep up his neck, and he wanted to throw his phone across the room. He felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to do something destructive. He squeezed his eyes shut.

The physical pain of their past encounters, the scrapes and bruises, the way Trevor would always trip him and laugh, came back to him with disturbing clarity. The feeling of being constantly on guard, the fear that had dictated so much of his childhood – it all returned with full force. He felt utterly and completely... aggravated.
