The cursor blinked mockingly, hovering over the "confirm" button. It was from Rebecca. Maria felt a wave of nausea wash over her. She gripped the edge of her desk, her knuckles turning white. The room seemed to shrink, the walls closing in.

She remembered the persistent teasing, the way Rebecca had rallied the other girls against her. The feeling of utter isolation, the way she had felt like an outsider in her own class.
