The old recipe book felt heavy in her lap. Sarah’s "Lemon Lavender Shortbread" was now “The Lavender Lady’s Delight,” featured in a popular cooking show. She felt a burning behind her eyes.

She stared out the window, the garden a blur of green and gold. Her breath came in short, shallow gasps. She wanted to scream, to lash out, to somehow reclaim what was rightfully hers.

Instead, she closed the book, the sound echoing in the silent room. She sat there, motionless, the weight of her stolen legacy pressing down on her like a physical burden.
