Gemotions

The room felt small, suffocating. Sarah, my roommate, was sitting on the edge of her bed, the cover of my journal in her hands. She was flipping the pages, her expression unreadable. I felt a tightening in my chest, a physical ache. I’d poured my heart into that book.

I stood rooted to the spot, unable to move. A wave of nausea rolled over me. I wanted to run, to escape the suffocating presence of her betrayal. I tried to speak, to demand an explanation, but my voice was a mere croak. She finally looked up, her eyes meeting mine, and I saw a flicker of…what? Shame?
