The silence that followed the argument was unbearable. I paced the hallway, back and forth, my footsteps echoing in the still air. My roommate, Chloe, had flatly refused my request for a fish tank.

I paused, pressing my palms against my temples. I had wanted the aquarium, the gentle movement of the fish, the peaceful colors, the quiet beauty. The aquarium felt like a personal oasis. Now, the apartment seemed devoid of life.

I turned away from the door, the emptiness gnawing at me. I was exhausted and my eyes were welling up. The frustration was overwhelming. I felt trapped.
