Rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the tempest inside Amelia. She stared at the phone, the screen reflecting her own drawn face. A single, unsent text message sat in the draft: “He’s a liar, and I can’t believe I ever trusted him.” She hadn’t meant to type that out, let alone almost send it. A misplaced tap. Her thumb hovering over the send button. She quickly deleted the draft. Her fingers trembled as she deleted the conversation thread she was looking at. A sharp intake of breath. The cold metal of the phone felt suddenly heavy in her hand.
