The note was a thin, white paper airplane pinned to her door. "Excessive noise levels. Please be considerate." The words swam before her eyes. She crumpled the note in her fist, the paper crackling like a fragile heart. She slammed the door shut, the sound echoing in the sudden silence of the apartment. She paced, the hardwood floor creaking with each agitated step. Her hands trembled as she reached for her headphones, shoving them on, the music a loud, desperate attempt to fill the emptiness.
