"Impossible," Daniel muttered under his breath, his voice barely audible. He ran a hand through his hair, dislodging strands that then fell across the desk. The email from his professor, informing him of a failing grade in his history project, sat open on his laptop screen. A wave of heat washed over him, making the air in his small dorm room feel thick and suffocating. He leaned back in his chair, the squeak of the plastic grating against the silence. It was like someone had punched him in the gut.
