The elevator ascended slowly, each floor a tick on the clock of his increasing anxiety. He ran a hand through his hair, smoothing down strands that refused to lie flat. His stomach churned. The appointment. The uncertainty. The constant feeling of being a medical anomaly.

He got out on the floor that the doctor was on and followed the signs, his footsteps echoing in the hallway. The nurse called out his name, "Mr. Harrison?" He stopped at the entrance, his throat suddenly tight.

In the consultation room, a woman sat, nervously fiddling with the strap of her handbag. Dr. Lee, his specialist, gestured towards her. "Mr. Harrison, this is Ms. Ramirez. She, too, has the… the condition. We thought it would be helpful for you both to meet."
