She stared out at the bustling city from her apartment window, the lights blurring through unshed tears. The persistent itching, the rashes that erupted seemingly at random, the way her own body seemed to turn against her. It was a vicious cycle of discomfort and confusion. She felt so utterly alone in it all.

A phone call, the only thing that interrupted the silence. It was Dr. Miller, her immunologist. She wasn't expecting an update; she expected more of the same. The doctor's voice was unusually grave. "Sarah, I need you to come in. There's… there's something you should know."

She arrived at the clinic and was ushered into a small examination room. Sitting there was a woman, similarly pale, with patches of redness on her hands. Dr. Miller explained that they had the same illness. "This is Emily," Dr. Miller said, "and she understands what you’re going through."
