Gemotions

The bright sunshine streaming through the window seemed mocking, unconcerned. Maria felt her jaw tighten as she read the letter again, meticulously, as if it would change. The announcement felt like a betrayal. She had loved this building, its quirks, its flaws, the sense of community.

She wandered aimlessly through the apartment, touching familiar objects: a worn armchair, a stack of books, a chipped mug. Each touch felt laden with a painful sense of loss. She felt the sudden urge to pack everything up right then and there, as if that could somehow prevent the inevitable.

She sat heavily at her desk, staring at her laptop. Her fingers hovered over the keyboard, but she couldn't bring herself to type. She was overwhelmed, paralyzed by the feeling of being completely powerless.
